Reindeer are also known as Caribou when they are in the wild. Reindeer live in the Northern parts of North America including Canada and Alaska also in Europe, Russia and Greenland. Let's not forget the flying reindeer with Santa. A reindeer mostly has different shades of soft brown fur with white fur on their neck and little specks of white on their back.
Their fur may also be gray or a rust color. Reindeer are 4-5 feet tall not including their antlers. Their antlers are usually 3 feet tall. Reindeer are the only deer in which both male and females grow antlers. Even though, they shed their antlers in the winter. Their antlers grown until around August, then the bone in the antlers begins to harden. Reindeer travel up to 600 miles during their migration when it's winter and they need to get to a warmer spot. A reindeer's weight is 240-700 pounds . Like I said earlier, these animals are part of the deer family, or Caribou which includes deer, elk, moose and wapiti. Like others in their family, reindeers have long legs, hooves and antlers. They are called reindeer in Europe. Ashleigh The southern flying squirrel is found throughout the eastern U.S., from Maine south to Florida and west from Minnesota south to Texas. A flying squirrel's wingspread is two feet long. Flying squirrels Fore feet have 4 toes, the Hind feet have 5 toes, with sharp curved claws covered with hair. Flying squirrels can easily forage for food in the night, given their highly developed sense of smell.
They harvest fruits, nuts, fungi, and birds' eggs. Flying squirrel is a type of squirrel best known for its ability to "fly". There are about 50 different species of flying squirrel that can be found all around the world. Best known are North American and South American flying squirrel which inhabit north and south part of America and Canada. Flying squirrels are not endangered. Flying squirrel usually reaches 12 inches in length including the tail, and weighs between 4 and 6.5 ounces. There known as rodents. The giant Asian flying squirrel has been known to make gliding flights as far as 165 feet! There are many species of flying squirrel, differing in size and color. There are normally found in trees, though are hard to see because they are fast and small. Most flying squirrels live for 11 to 13 years. Their large eyes help them skillfully climb trees and avoid predators. Squirrels are born blind. Ashleigh Mr. Peabody is an inventor, a genius, and a dog. He has an adopted son named Sherman. Mr. Peabody invented a time machine called the WABAC (pronounced "way back'') to teach Sherman about important events in history. Sherman's first day of school feels like an adventure until he meets a girl named Penny Peterson.
Penny is mean to Sherman because he knows more about history than she does. At lunch, Penny comes up, interrupts him and his new friends, grabs his sandwich out of his hands, throws it, and calls him a dog. Sherman lost his temper and bit her. When Mr. Peabody heard, he apologized to her and her family, and invited them to dinner... without telling Sherman. When Penny and her parents arrive...Sherman freaks out! Penny's mom is delighted to meet Mr. Peabody, though Penny's dad is not. Mr. Peabody tells Sherman to be nice to Penny, But warns him not to tell her about the WABAC. Penny bullies Sherman. She asks him how he knows so much about history. Sherman accidentally tells Penny about the WABAC. Sherman takes Penny to see the WABAC. Penny is impressed by the amazing time machine. Penny convinces Sherman to take her for a ride into the past. Sherman returns to the present to tell Mr. Peabody that they have a small problem. Penny is lost in ancient Egypt! Mr. Peabody and Sherman race off to find her. When they arrive, they find out that now, King Tut is her boyfriend, and their going to get married in an hour! Mr. Peabody is able to tell Penny, instead of a ring, her hand would get cut off, and she would be buried next to King Tuts coffin! Penny understood and now wanted to go home. Then, instead of going toward them, she was dragged toward King Tut, by his minions. As for Mr. Peabody and Sherman, they where throne in prison. Not long after, Mr. Peabody found a lose tile, and when he pushed it, it opened up to a secret passage way, which they followed all the way to... the sphinx head. Where they talk out of the mouth. They told King Tut to stop the wedding and King Tut did, for a little, until he found out that they where tricking him. They where able to escape and get to the WABAC before King Tuts minions caught up with them. Though when they got back to the present, Leonardo di vanes, Robespierre, and a bunch of other people zoomed through the streets. Then Sherman had an idea to get everyone back to their homes. They could travel to the future! They tried it... and it worked! Ashleigh You will find that seals have quite a spread when it comes to their distribution. Seals find the foods that they need in the water around them, which is why you will only find them where there is plenty of water. Some seals live where it is cold. Unlike seals that don't live in the artic, snow seals have fur to keep them warm. Many species of seals have no natural predators. This is due to where they live and what size they grow up to be.
There are 18 known species of seals. The Leopard Seal is the second largest of all seals out there. The Harp Seal is one that has lots of white fur on it. They also can feature areas of light brown and even some black. The Harbor Seal is fairly small when it is compared to the many other species of seals out there. The Gray Seal is one that many people have seen in pictures. It is found along the North Atlantic Ocean on both sides of it. The Northern Elephant Seal is smaller than those from other Elephant Seals in the Southern part of the world. The Southern Elephant Seal is the largest of all seals in the world. If you had to choose only one word to describe the Weddell Seal, it would like to be that they are cute. All of the Mediterranean Monk Seals have a watch patch on them. Ashleigh The Baltimore oriole is the state bird of Maryland. They mainly eat insects, berries and nectar, and are often seen sipping at hummingbird feeders. The black and bright orange Baltimore Orioles makes them the second beautiful backyard bird. They are exactly 7.53 inches long.
Their narrow bills help them catch insects. The oldest banded Baltimore Oriole in the wild lived for 11 years and 7 months, although they can also live up to 14 years in captivity. Baltimore Orioles got their name because of their bright orange and black colors. Sometimes if one eats a bug that is poisonous, the poison can directly kill orioles. The nest of a Baltimore Oriole looks like a stuffed sock that hangs at the very edge of a tree branch high in the air to keep predators away. It can take a female as long as 15 days to make the nest. It's nest is normally made out of animal fur, twine, wool, bark and other stuff. One of the Baltimore Orioles favorite things to eat is caterpillars. This is important because their appetite for caterpillars and other pests can help protect forests. Baltimore Orioles are attracted to the color orange. You would not see them in the winter, though if it is any other season, it is a good chance you will. Ashleigh Today I read a new book called ''Rumpelstiltskin''. Once there was a miller that was very poor, his only treasure was his daughter. The miller told the king that she could spin straw into gold even though she could not. The king was very greedy, though, and wanted to test the girl. He had her brought to the castle and locked in a room full of straw. He told her if the room was not filled with gold by morning, she would be killed.
A little while after the king left, the girl began to cry because she didn't know how to spin straw into gold. Then, a little man wearing a blue coat, and a red hat with three feathers came into the room. He asked what would she trade if he did it for her. My necklace, she said. He took the necklace and soon the room was filled with gold. The king made her go in two more rooms filled with straw. Each time, the little man came. The second time he came, the girl traded her ring and the little man once again spun the straw into gold. The third time, she didn't have any thing to trade. The little man thought, and then said "If you become queen, then give me your first child." The girl thought that there was no way that she would ever become the queen, so she agreed. After the king received the third room of gold, he decided to marry the miller's daughter. After a year, the queen had a baby. After a little while, the small man came for the child. The queen began to sob, and the little man took pity on her. He said, "I will give you three days to guess my name, by the end of that time if you have found out what my name is, the child is yours to keep. She tried Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar, Short-ribs, Sheepshanks, and Lace-leg. Finally, a messenger found out his name at the top of a hill near a little cottage. His name was Rumpelstiltskin! The little man was so mad that he stamped his feet. He stamped his feet so hard that he dug a very deep hole, and the walls fell in on him and he disappeared from sight! He was never seen again... Ashleigh here is an other blog on us trying to get out of the creepy cave. Good and Bad News He said the next time I see you to bring you to him. Oh, said Ashleigh. The good news is you can stay with Blaze in his house and try to figure out a plan to get out of here, the demon said as he walked out. I will show you my house said Blaze. As they walked through a tunnel, it became less dark. Soon they were there, his house.
Lights hung from the ceiling. a wood table sat at one side of a wall, 5 chairs waited near it. 5 bunk beds where on the other wall. Those are guest beds, said Blaze, that is my bed, he said as he pointed to two blankets and a pillow in the corner of the room. That is the smallest bed I ever seen, said Seth. It's even smaller than me, said Ashleigh. To be continued... Do you know where the combination is? Asked Ashleigh. No, said the dragon, oh and my name is ''Blaze.'' Nice to meet you Blaze, I'm Ashleigh, said Ashleigh, this is Maddie and that is Seth. Hi. said Seth.
Then a bang of a door made Ashleigh's hair stand strait up. The demon looked like he just got out of a boxing match, in other words he was sweeting a puddle. The demon looked at Ashleigh's hair, then frowned. What did he say. Asked Ashleigh. Bad news... said the demon. To be continued... Sea turtles are coldblooded reptiles that live in oceans. Even though sea turtles live in the ocean, they are related to land turtles. Sea turtles breathe through lungs and have a 3 or 4 chambered heart. A sea turtles shell can protect it from their enemies. Humans are the main predators of turtles, but fish, frogs, snakes, minks, otters and birds such as crows eat their eggs.
Sea turtles don't have teeth, though do have hard jaws which can leave a small bite mark. Sea turtles have paddle-like flippers. Their flippers are great for getting them through the water. They also breathe air, so a sea turtle must come to the water surface when it needs to breathe, which can leave them able to see from boats. There are seven species of sea turtles. Six of them (the hawksbill, green, flat back, loggerhead, Kemp's riley, and olive riley have shells made up of hard scuttles, while the aptly-named leatherback turtle has a shell that is as hard as leather. All sea turtles and all turtles lay eggs. Sea turtles hatch from eggs on shore and then spend several years out at sea. It may take 5 to 35 years for them to become a grown turtle, depending on the species. At this point, males and females migrate to breeding grounds, which are often near nesting areas. Males and females mate offshore, and females travel to nesting areas to lay their eggs. Ashleigh I hope you all had an amazing weekend! Here is the next chapter of my story! Chapter XIV or 14: Flying through the Clouds I wonder what they are saying, Ashleigh said as Maddie got the door open. In front of them was a golden dragon with a mouth filled with 5 inch teeth. Wow, Ashleigh said as it glared down at her.
Look, it has a black lever saddle that looks old though made for three people! Oh boy! Me in the front! Ashleigh yelled. "Um, ok..." said Maddie. Come on boy, said Ashleigh when they climbed on. GRRRR, the dragon grunted as it took off. WOOOHOOOOO! Yelled Ashleigh, as they flew into the crystal clear sky. Wow, said Maddie, with the wind hitting her face. I feel like a cloud flying through the sky. said Ashleigh. Then at that moment, the dragon spoke. Just to make sure you know, we can't exit this way. What! Yelled Ashleigh, YOU CAN TALK! The dragon sighed, yes. Wow said Ashleigh looking down at the fresh green grass, the clear lake, and a little cabin near a pond full of fish swimming around. My master keeps the key to get out of here in the garden, though you need to get the combination to the lock right to open a chest. To be continued... |
