The first Jack O'Lanterns were actually made from turnips.
Ireland is believed to be the birthplace of the Halloween festival. The Irish tradition dates back to the eighteenth century. Halloween takes its roots from the old Celtic festival Samhain Eve, when it was believed that the link between the worlds of living and dead was at its strongest. Pumpkins originated in Mexico. Trick-or treating became popular in the US in the 1930’s. Halloween began as the festival of Samhain. It was part of the ancient Celtic religion in Britain and other parts of Europe. At the end of summer, the Celts thought the barrier between our world and the world of ghosts and spirits got really thin. ... The Celts had a big party. Ashleigh

There are many different Christmas traditions. Some Christmas traditions include having a Christmas tree, sending Christmas cards, baking holiday cookies, buying presents for loved ones, hanging stockings, decorating your home with Christmas lights, kissing under the mistletoe, singing Christmas carols, celebrating the day with loved ones.
It is believed that decorating Christmas trees originated in 16th century Germany when Christians would bring decorated trees into their homes. Christmas trees were first decorated with foods such as apples, nuts and dates. In the 18th century, Christmas trees began being decorated with candles. Electric Christmas tree lights were first used in 1895. Many families send out Christmas cards to friends, family and loved ones. The tradition started in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole who helped set up the Public Records Office which is now the United States Postal Service and artist John Horsely. Cole and Horsely created the first Christmas Card to encourage people to use the mail delivery service. Ashleigh The cruise started at about 7:00 in the morning. First stop was the Phantom Fireworks. My best friend, Bob, gave me a piece of candy which started my day off amazingly. Once we were on the road with the other cars... a 1957 Chevy Convertible got in front of us. He kept his speed at 50 mph or less, which was following the speed limit, but many of the cars in front of him were moving a lot faster and cars got in front of him within our line.
We saw a pumpkin patch, and lots of woods and mountains along our trip! We also stopped with the other cars in a Dunkin' Donuts. Other classic cars joined the cruise there, as well. Our next stop was for sightseeing. Daddy din't let me get out of the car with Maddie so that was kind of boring. Finally we arrived at Tom's Hot dogs which was also lame because we didn't even get anything to eat (the line was very long). Instead, after taking some pictures, we drove to Brattleboro and finished the day with a Chinese Buffet! Yum! Ashleigh Once apon a time, a girl named Ashleigh was taking Jupiter (Our dog) out for a walk. Her sister Maddie had gone out to her job. There Daddy worked from home. Ashleigh had finished all of her homework. She started to dance to a nearby rock wall.
She looked in the rock wall for at least one of her friends. She sighed and said: Come on, its not that cold. No luck. Well, she said, Now I know that snakes are scared of the cold... Her sentence was interrupted by a Grrrrrrrrrrr! Ashleigh whipped around staring into the woods. She walked toward the woods. But when she got close... something reached out, grabbed her and pulled her in. She herd a feint Woof! Woof! And grabbed a tree branch. She pulled with all her might. Soon, the thing let go and Ashleigh went flying right into Jupiter! She quickly helped Jupiter up and went running. She was so tried that she ran to her room and had a nice long nap while Jupiter got a drink of water. Ashleigh Koalas are marsupials, which makes them related to kangaroos. Most marsupials have pouches where the newborn joey's develop.
A female koala mostly always gives birth to one newborn at a time. Called a joey, the newborn is blind, naked, and earless. A joey is only the size of a jelly bean. As soon as it's born, it slowly makes its way from the birth canal to its mother's pouch. Using the two of it's first developed senses it's born with—smell and touch—along with its strong front legs and claws and an instinct that tells it which direction to head, the baby koala reaches the pouch. There it stays, growing and developing for seven months. After the joey has been in the pouch for about six months, its mother begins to produce a special substance called pap. The joey feeds on this in addition to the milk it's already getting. When seven months pass, the joey leaves the pouch to eat leaves, but returns to it to nurse. When it is one year old the joey stops nursing and eats just leaves. They spend most of there time in eucalyptus trees wedged between forks in the tree's branches. They live in southeastern and eastern Astraila in the states of Queensland, new South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. Ashleigh 1 blueberry, 2 blueberry, 3, blueberry, 4... 5 blueberry, 6 blueberry, 7 blueberry or... I am going to tell you some fun fruit facts.
Number 1: Mostly every fruit has seeds inside of it except pineapple, seedless orange's (Some orange's have seeds, and some don't) and banana's. But wild banana's can have seeds. Watermelon seeds are perfectly safe to eat. If you get a mouthful of seeds along with a sweet, juicy watermelon peace, it's totally fine. Number 2: NEVER EAT FRUIT SKIN! If it is an unpeeled apple, that is fine. Same with pear's and strawberry's. But if it is a orange or pineapple... (Sorry i'm mentioning pineapple's so much) ask some one to help take it off, or if you know how to...do it yourself. Number 3: ALWAYS...wash your fruit before eating it. Do you know how many people have probably touched 1 single peace of fruit? Probably about 10 people! Ashleigh People believe that the dinosaurs were killed when an asteroid hit. But some may still be out there. Beside's...only 5% of the ocean has bin explored. That is why i am going to talk about some of the extinct animals.
Number one (The Meg): The Meg is a giant shark that is also known as the Megalodon. The Meg is about 59 ft. The biggest shark that is not extinct is the great white shark. But still... extinct or not... the Meg is the biggest shark. Number two (The Lock Ness Monster): Some people think the loss ness monster is a fake. We aren't 100% shore it is real ether. I think it is a plesiosaur. Just imagine a long neck with fins and that her. Yes i said her. Her name is Nessie. Number three (Mammoth): Mammoth's are mostly elephants with fur. They died when the ice age melted. Ashleigh An adult male chicken is called a “rooster” and an adult female is called a “hen.”They can fly but because they are heavy, they can only go about 60 meters. Baby chicks can eat and walk without help soon after hatching but they still need help keeping warm. Hens lay up to 240 eggs in a year.
They scratch and claw at the ground, looking for food. They peck at worms, fruit, grain, seeds, insects, snails, acorns, slugs, and similar foods. Hen's and Rooster's have bad senses of smell and taste, but have good hearing. Many predators are opossums, bobcats, snakes, raccoons, hawks, owls, and skunks. Since most are domesticated, you can find Hen's or Rooster's on every continent but Antarctica. Though, they prefer mild and warm climates. Ashleigh Spotted hyenas are famed scavengers and often dine on the leftovers of other predators. But these hardy beasts are also skilled hunters that will take down wildebeest or antelope. They also kill and eat birds, lizards, snakes, and insects.
Spotted hyenas are the largest of three hyena species. Brown and striped hyenas are the other two. Although hyenas appear similar to dogs, they are actually more closely related to cats. They live throughout much of Africa and eastwards through Arabia to India. Spotted hyenas live together in large groups called clans that may include up 80 individuals and are led by females.
