Okay, here's the follow-up to the first half of this post! Just to clarify; I'm only quoting the 11 princesses that are in the official Disney collection. If my readers enjoy this; maybe I'll dig out quotes from the other various Disney movies that aren't just princesses- because goodness knows they have some good quotes in them, and were a large part of my childhood as well.
Jasmine "Whatever we may do, you are here for me, and I'll be there for you." "Like so many things; it is not what is outside, but what is inside that counts." Pocahontas "Sometimes, the right path is not the easiest one." "You think the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like you. But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger; you'll learn things you never knew, you never knew." Mulan "The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all." "Believe you can. Then you will." Tiana "The only way you get what you want in this world is through hard work." "My daddy never did get what he wanted. But he had what he needed. He had love. He never lost sight of what was really important; and neither will I." Rapunzel "And love will not break your heart; but dismiss your fears." "You'll never find anything better if you stay in your comfort zone." Merida "You control your destiny- you don't need magic to do it. And there are no magical shortcuts to solving your problems." "Our fate lies within us. You just have to be brave enough to see it." BONUS: "That's the real trouble with the world; too many people grow up." "Why worry? If you've done the very best you can, worrying won't make it any better." "Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional." - Walt Disney

I've been thinking about what I'd like to write about for a good portion of my day now, and because of this; I ended up scrolling back through old posts. About a week or two ago my dad and I had both written posts on quotes from Winnie The Pooh- an influential character in both our childhoods. This got me thinking, what else held a special place in my childhood? The immediate answer was disney movies. I used to watch them all the time when I was little and they served as a wholesome form of entertainment for me when I was 6 and 7. To this day, I can still somewhat enjoy watching them with my sister.
Because of this, I've decided to go on a hunt for some quotes from most of the Disney princesses- I'll try to get one from each. Whether I'll succeed or not is beyond me; because I refuse to throw just anything into the mix to satisfy people. Anyway, here we go! Snow White "You're never too old to be young." "When the raindrops come tumbling, remember that you're the one who can fill the world with sunshine." Cinderella "Even miracles take a little time." "Have courage, and be kind." Sleeping Beauty "Even if love is full of thorns, I'd still embrace it- for I know that in between those thorns; there is a rose worth all the pain." "Love will always find a way." Ariel "What makes someone special? I suppose it all depends. It's what's unique in each of us." "I remember all the wonderful times we've had together. They're not things. They're memories." Belle "It's not until you lose everything that you can truly appreciate everything." "A thing must be loved before it is lovable." This post is beginning to get lengthy... and there are many more princesses to get through. Because of this, I will end this post here and proceed to make a part 2. I hope you enjoyed this post and if you have any quotes I've missed; please tell me! - Maddie . "Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future." That's a quote by Robert Schuller. Schuller is best known as the creator of the Hour of Power, a TV Evangelical show that ran for over forty years. Schuller "hoped: to have a positive impact on as many people as possible. And his Hour of Power certainly did that. I think it's very easy to see who is walking around led by their hopes, and who are being led by their hurts. In fact, almost anyone who is depressed is likely hurting from something. Whether it is real or imagined is often up for debate. What brings on a more fatalistic attitude? I see people who many would think have a good life, walking around as if all hope is lost. At the same time, I see people who you would think have a lot to be sad about, who walk around as if they are on the top of the world. One of the most optimistic people I think I have ever known is my old college roommate, Kevin. Kevin was caught in an apartment fire back in college and nearly died. He was burned badly across most of his body. He went through countless hours of operations to help repair his badly burned skin. When I first met him, he had already been through the first round of skin grafts. Even so, he was happy and full of life. In fact, I never heard him complain about his burns. He just took life as it came and was happy. Nearly thirty years later and he is still going strong. He is happily married to a beautiful woman, and he has just become a grandfather. It is amazing the struggle this man went through, and to think that he remained positive throughout his ordeal. Not only that, but he is outspoken for the burn units that helped him and does charity work for them. If ever there was an ordinary man who should be a hero, it would be Kevin. I never spoke with Kevin about the great respect I have for him. In fact, when I was younger, it never crossed my mind. We were friends, we had some great times together, that was it. Nowadays, I often think of Kevin while I am looking through quotes to write about for this blog. After he popped into my mind for about the third time in as many weeks, I thought I ought to write this post.
Hope. Some say its is a good breakfast, but a poor supper (Francis Bacon). I don't look at it as either. Hope is there to inspire you that there is a better way. Without action, though, hope is meaningless. Hope doesn't mean there is no work. Hope is there to say that if you do the work, then your reward is waiting. That is how I look at it anyway. Hope shows you the road... but YOU still have to walk it. Meanwhile hurt is a place. It does not show you a map on how to leave it. You need to do that on your own. And hope can help you to do that. Thus, hurt is a place that can be left behind with the help of hope and action. "The greatest pleasure in life is in doing what people say you cannot do." - Walter Bagehot. Walter, believe it or not, was once the editor of The Economist, which, of course, is a financial magazine. He was the editor way back in the mid-1800's though, so it was way before the magazine became a mouthpiece for the powers that be.
Bagehot was born about 145 years ahead of his time, judging him purely by his quote. I like to loosely live by that quote as my motto. If people say I can't do something... particularly if it is something physical, I like to practice until I can prove them wrong. Personally, I hate when people use age as an excuse. And I hate even more when they use MY age as an excuse! "You can't do that! You're 50 years old!" Yes, I am fifty years old, but I CAN do that! I will practice the move over and over again until I can do that. Spinning back kick to someone's head. Yep, I can do it. I practiced for months, but I CAN do it. I am now trying to teach my daughter how to do it. It is a definite show off move. Punch a 100 pound bag over with one punch. Yes! That one only took me a few tries to get. Ditto the flying side kick. The trick is to get height. Even outside of karate, I don't like people telling me what I can't do, just because they or most people can't or won't do it. I started my own business because I thought I could work from home and get paid for it. I moved to New Hampshire because I thought New Jersey was grossly over-taxing everyone. Well, what can you do, people said, if you live here, you got to pay it. Well then I won't live here. Yeah right! That's right, I bought a house in New Hampshire in 2005, and have been saving on taxes ever since. Similar to the quote, I do take pleasure in doing what people say I can't do. No fear. We weren't born to live in fear. At least not fear of trying. If I want to do something, and it IS possible, then I am going to try until I can do it. If others don't like that, tough luck! Live for yourself. Do what people say you can't do. I am not advocating breaking the law here. I think you can see where I am coming from by the examples I used. Follow your heart. Do what you want...even if you need to expend time and energy to do it. Time and energy is kung fu. become a kung fu master! and take pleasure from doing things others have said you cannot do! |
