The red kangaroo is the world's largest marsupial, and it is native to Australia. Female Kangaroos have one baby at a time. At birth a baby kangaroo is smaller than a cherry. The little kangaroo climbs into its mother's pouch as soon as it is born and does not leave for two months. Until they reach about eight months of age, threatened young kangaroos, called joeys, will quickly dive for the safety of mom's pouch when a predator is near.
As they grow a joeys' head and feet can often be seen hanging out of the pouch. Red kangaroos hop along on their powerful legs with great speed. A red kangaroo can reach speeds of over 35 miles an hour. Their bounding allows them to cover 25 feet in a single leap and to jump 6 feet high. Female red kangaroos are smaller, lighter, and faster than males. Larger male kangaroos are very powerful. Male kangaroos sometimes fight over mates. They often lean back on their tails and box each other with their legs. Kangaroos can also bite and use their sharp claws, which they may do in battle with an enemy like a dingo. Red kangaroos live in Australia's deserts and open grasslands, gathering in groups called mobs. Many animals roam Australia. Many are killed each year for their skins and meat. Humans also kill them for food. Ashleigh

Moose are mammals that are the largest of all the deer species. Males have huge antlers, which can spread 6 feet from end to end. Moose have long faces and muzzles that dangle over their chins. A moose's bell sways beneath the throat. Moose are so tall that they prefer to browse in higher grasses and shrubs.
Though lowering their heads to ground level can be difficult. In winter they eat shrubs and pine cones. They also scrape snow with their large hooves to clear areas for browsing. When the ice melts, moose are often seen in lakes, rivers, or wetlands, feeding on plants both at and below the surface. Moose are at home in the water and are good swimmers. They have been seen paddling several miles at a time. They can also stay under water for 30 seconds or more. They can run up to 35 miles an hour over short distances, and trot at 20 miles an hour. Ashleigh Bobcats are mammals that live in forests, swamps, and deserts. Bobcats, are sometimes called wildcats. Bobcats eat deer, rabbits, birds, mice, squirrels, and other animals. Bobcats have long legs, large paws, and big ears. Bobcats are twice as big as housecats.
Most bobcats are brown or brownish red with a white belly and short, black-tipped tail. The cat is named for its tail, which happens to be cut, or bobbed. Baby bobcats will remain with their mother for 9 to 12 months. During this time they will learn to hunt before setting out on their own. Ashleigh There are over 10,000 different species of grasshoppers found on every continent except for Antarctica. Some live in jungles and forests. Grasshoppers are eaten by raccoons, big brown bats, and red foxes. Grasshoppers hatch out of eggs. The eggs are long and thin.
Grasshoppers never eat other insects. They are called herbivores, because they eat only plants. They will eat the grass in your yard. They will also eat the crops you have in your field.
