There are over 10,000 different species of grasshoppers found on every continent except for Antarctica. Some live in jungles and forests. Grasshoppers are eaten by raccoons, big brown bats, and red foxes. Grasshoppers hatch out of eggs. The eggs are long and thin.
Grasshoppers never eat other insects. They are called herbivores, because they eat only plants. They will eat the grass in your yard. They will also eat the crops you have in your field. Ashleigh

Cats are mammals that do not like mice. Cats eat lots of food including dry cat food, wet cat food, mice, and lot's more. They often eat their pray such as chicken. Cats will mate throughout the year as the breeding season is running as early as February and as late as December, although the average season is from March, to September. Cats have several needs that require humans.
Aside from needing food and water, cats also need litter boxes, scratching items, toys, and safe snuggly sleeping spots. There are many kinds of cats. There are: tigers, lions, leopards, cheetahs, bobcats, and panthers. I like cats. I like dogs too. Ashleigh Squirrels are mammals that climb trees. Squirrels are only five inches long from nose to tail. Others reach sizes to those who are only familiar with common tree squirrels. The Indian giant squirrel is three feet long. Like other rodents, squirrels have four front teeth that never stop growing.
Tree squirrels are seen gracefully scampering and leaping from branch to branch. Other species are ground squirrels that live in burrows where they hibernate during the winter. Ground squirrels eat nuts, leaves, roots, seeds, and other plants. They also catch and eat small animals, such as insects and caterpillars. These small mammals must always be aware of predators. Sometimes groups of ground squirrels work together to warn each other of approaching danger with a whistling call. Ashleigh Lions are mammals that live in Africa. Lions eat meat which means they are predators. Male lions have manes, girls do not. When baby boys are born they need to grow to get their manes. The dad lions don't hunt much, the moms do most of the hunting.
Lions eat large animals like zebras, and wildebeest. They also eat smaller animals. At 3 to 4 years old, males and females are ready to mate. She will give birth to her young babies away from others and hide the cubs for the first six weeks of their lives. So don't try to take their cubs, or you will become their lunch. Ashleigh Jackals are part of the wolf family. Jackals are very similar to wolfs. Their ears are alike, their tails are alike, even their pups are alike except for their color. Jackals live in open savannas, deserts, and grasslands. Most jackals are found in Africa and Asia.
There are four species of jackals: the golden jackal, the side-striped jackal, the black-backed jackal and the Ethiopian wolf jackal. Jackals can change their diet depending on available food. They mostly eat insects, berries, and small mammals like rodents, but will sometimes form a pack to hunt larger prey. They are mistaken for eating mostly carrion, which is actually only a small portion of their diet. Ashleigh Giraffes can eat hundreds of pounds of leaves per week. Giraffes are herbivores, which means they only eat plants. Their long necks allow them to reach leaves, buds, and branches that are higher than most animals can reach. A giraffe eats hundreds of pounds of leaves each week and must travel miles to find enough food.
Giraffes are the world's tallest mammals in the world. Their legs and feet can grow up to 6 feet long. These long legs allow giraffes to run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances. The giraffe's height also helps it to keep a sharp lookout for predators across the wide grasslands of the African savanna. Lions stay away from giraffes because giraffes have a very powerful kick. To drink giraffes have to bend down and spread its legs because their neck is so long . Female giraffes give birth standing up. Their young babies welcome into the world by falling more than 5 feet to the ground at birth. The babies can stand in half an hour and run with their mothers ten hours after birth. Ashleigh |
