Giraffes can eat hundreds of pounds of leaves per week. Giraffes are herbivores, which means they only eat plants. Their long necks allow them to reach leaves, buds, and branches that are higher than most animals can reach. A giraffe eats hundreds of pounds of leaves each week and must travel miles to find enough food.
Giraffes are the world's tallest mammals in the world. Their legs and feet can grow up to 6 feet long. These long legs allow giraffes to run as fast as 35 miles an hour over short distances. The giraffe's height also helps it to keep a sharp lookout for predators across the wide grasslands of the African savanna. Lions stay away from giraffes because giraffes have a very powerful kick. To drink giraffes have to bend down and spread its legs because their neck is so long . Female giraffes give birth standing up. Their young babies welcome into the world by falling more than 5 feet to the ground at birth. The babies can stand in half an hour and run with their mothers ten hours after birth. Ashleigh
