Jackals are part of the wolf family. Jackals are very similar to wolfs. Their ears are alike, their tails are alike, even their pups are alike except for their color. Jackals live in open savannas, deserts, and grasslands. Most jackals are found in Africa and Asia.
There are four species of jackals: the golden jackal, the side-striped jackal, the black-backed jackal and the Ethiopian wolf jackal. Jackals can change their diet depending on available food. They mostly eat insects, berries, and small mammals like rodents, but will sometimes form a pack to hunt larger prey. They are mistaken for eating mostly carrion, which is actually only a small portion of their diet. Ashleigh
