A few days ago I finished a book called Fablehaven and it is one of the most enjoyable fantasies I've ever read so lets get on with the story.
One day a girl named Kendra and her brother Seth were going to their Grandpa Sorenson's house because their parents (their mom and dad) were going on vacation for seventeen days. As their SUV rolled over the two lane highway, Seth dug in the back for snacks for the rest of the ride. Finally, they came to a dirt driveway with WARNING and BEWARE signs. The driveway came to an end, and a big-sized house made of oak with butterflies, bees, and dragonfly's surrounding it waited for them. A big flower garden stood in the front of the house along with a big barn at the side of the house. The inside was also in good condition. Dale and Lena, the helpers/caretakers helped take in bags from the back of the SUV. Grandpa showed them to their room which happened to be a playroom in the attic and said their was tons of things to do, he also told them a swimming pool was at the back of the house. He then told them two rules: never go in the woods, and never go in the barn. The playroom had a dollhouse, a toy chest filled with stuffed toys, and dolls, a telescope that was placed near a window, two big beds, and a chicken in a cage named Goldilocks. Before he left, grandpa gave Kendra three keys and told her to find what they unlocked. Seth ran straight for the chicken and grandpa told him they had to water and feed her and collect her eggs. They could also take her out of the cage but had to put her back before dark. As Seth pet the soft golden feathers, Kendra got into bed and went to sleep. The next day, grandpa joined them for breakfast at the table. Lena had made cream of wheat with raspberry's, milk, sugar, jam, and butter. It was very good. After eating, Kendra put on her swim suit, then stood at the edge of the pool putting on sunblock. Seth didn't put on sunblock and was already in the pool swimming. Seth poked his head out of the water and Kendra dabbed some sunblock on his face, and he backed away. Kendra had brought a mirror from the house and as she stopped swimming she noticed a lot of bees, dragonfly's, and butterflies hovered above it. Seth turned over the mirror and bees and dragonflies flipped it over again. Seth grabbed it and started running while the swarm of insects flew off. Kendra got out of the pool, grabbed the towel and went back to the attic to get changed. That night, Kendra looked for one of the three key holes and found one, it was a small jewelry box. The next day, Seth and Kendra got up, ate breakfast, and went to the attic again. Then Seth chose to break the rule and go into the woods, he asked Kendra to come, but she didn't want to break the rule. As Seth went into the woods, he saw a porcupine and screamed as it came toward him. Seth finally shooed it away. He continued down the trail until he came to a fork in the path. He went left. Soon he came to an ivy shack and wondered if grandpa new the shack was there. He went to the entryway and saw an old woman with ragged clothes sitting on a tree stump eating a piece of rope. She tried to get him to stick his hand in a box that had something rattling in it. He turned and ran but before he did, he found out that the woman chewing the rope... was a witch! As he ran through the woods, he got hit by pebbles and rocks and thought the witch was chasing him even though she wasn't. He tripped over a wire that he didn't see when he came and didn't look back to see what was chasing him. Instead, he rushed to the house and up to the attic to tell Kendra. While Seth was gone Kendra had found a tree house and started a puzzle. She also found out they have milking cows in the barn and give the insects milk to keep the garden wildly. The next day, Seth was out on the lawn with Kendra and found the milk. Kendra drank some and looked at a dragonfly and saw it as a fairy. Then Seth drank some and saw it as a fairy also. Their grandpa called them inside and Seth found a fairy skull in grandpa's office on his desk. Grandpa told them not to break the rule and they both got sent to the attic for the rest of the day. The next day, Seth tried to catch a fairy and didn't fail. He kept it in the attic but the next morning it had turned into an imp. The other fairies didn't like what he did, and turned Seth into a walrus. Grandpa took him to the witch named Muriel Taggert and untied one of the knots. Muriel then undid the spell so he was back to his normal form. The next day, Grandpa told them that tomorrow was Midsummer eve. Midsummer eve is a time when monsters come to the house. Kendra and Seth helped carve jack-o-lanterns and Dale took Seth to their golem named Hugo. When it was sunset grandpa took them to the attic and told them not to open the window or door until sun up. He put a circle of salt around their beds and told them it would protect them. When Grandpa left, Seth looked out the window and saw a baby with two wolves using him or her as bait. Seth tried to save it but it was a trap, the baby turned into a goblin and the wolves turned into a twelve foot long centipede with two sets of wings. Goldilocks clucked wildly. Dale came in with a shotgun and led the monsters out of the room. Kendra closed the door and for the rest of the night they heard babies and laughs, and foot steps on the roof, though they didn't open the window. In the morning, they when down and saw the damage. Everything was ruined! They went to the yard and found a metal statue of Dale and found footprints going into the woods. They followed the footprints to a well, which contained stew... not poisonous stew. Just next, out of the bushes came a satyr! The satyr took the stew and ran behind a bush. Kendra and Seth followed. An ogress came thumping up the hill near the well. It chased them until it gave up. Kendra and Seth followed the satyr until they came in contact with another satyr. The satyr's names were Doren and Newel. They pointed out how to get back to the house. Once back at the ruined house, they went to the barn to see if there was anything that could help them. Instead, they milked a gigantic cow and got all milked. Once in the attic they found a message from Goldilocks saying: I'm GRAM. They couldn't believe it! They took her to the Muriel who undid the spell but they had to untie the final knot. Grandma was relived to see them and Kendra and Seth explained everything. They went to a troll named Nero he told them Grandpa was in the Forgotten Chapel with Lena. Grandma and Kendra and Seth raced to the forgotten chapel, but Muriel's puppet named Mendigo captured Grandma and Seth. Kendra ran for she had no magic, thus she could not be harmed. She went to the fairy queen and had to get her tears the gigantic cow's milk and blood. Getting those things was easy, but now she needed to get fairies to drink it. Minute after Minute passed, but no fairy would drink it. Finally one tried it and it became bigger and soon all the fairy's were drinking it. They flew to the Forgotten Chapel when they kissed the imps, they turned into fairy's. Even though many died in battle the fairies healed one another and soon all was well. Ashleigh
