The above quote is attributed to Gandhi, and I'm honestly surprised that I've never heard of it before! If you're a long-time reader of this blog, then you know by now that I'm an avid learner and an extreme advocate of continual learning. I've met too many closed-minded people in my life that believe because they're adults, there's nothing left to learn. Now, I'm not going to stereotype all adults as this- I also know many adults who are dedicated to learning something new every day, my dad being on of them. I just fail to comprehend how anyone can believe that they're exempt from learning.
I see life as a gigantic unknown void- because for me, right now, it is. In fact, I think life is a void of unknown for most people! Most of us just have too much pride to admit it. Even if you've lived a long and hearty life, chances are you left many stones un-turned and failed to go after EVERY dream you had, or meet every goal. If you somehow managed to accomplish everything you ever set out to do, I commend you- but I also question why you never replenished your goals after reaching them. That's a post topic for an entirely different day though, and I'd rather talk about learning. To get back to what I was saying before about life being a void, I mean that it's impossible to know everything. It's impossible to experience everything. What we do in life pales in comparison to all the opportunities we're given that we don't take, and all of the possible paths our lives could take. Everything winds down to choice, and chance. We're only given one life to live, and obviously we can't do everything- but we can maximize our good experiences through choice. Do you want a job that allows you to travel? Then you need to go out and get that job. If you find yourself unable to, then make small steps working towards that job. Maybe that job requires and education higher than the one you got. Perfect, you have another step to take towards your goal. Go out and get that education. Need funds to pay for the education? Find a smaller job, angling towards your interests. GET that job. Obviously, life throws curveballs and nothing ever works out as planned, but you see my point. Get, get, get. In order to achieve anything in life, you have to go after it. Sometimes, going after something requires learning. Don't let your pride mute your potential. - Maddie
