I found yet another inspiring prompt today- in list form. The prompt asks that you make two lists- a list of facts about yourself, and a list of perceptions you know that other people have about you. To finish this prompt, you have to write a paragraph comparing and contrasting the two lists, and stating why you believe people have the thoughts they do of you. Below are mine.
I'll admit, some of the assumptions I've heard people make about me are insane. However, I think I can clear most of them up. Many people take me as bitter/aggressive/intimidating because when I'm out in public, I tend to have a chronic case of Resting Bitch Face. Unless you catch me when I'm with my friends or laughing, it can be very easy to mistake me for a grumpy person. As for me smoking weed? I guess I look the part, I don't know. I'm very open-minded and I'm naturally a deep thinker, so maybe people incorrectly put two and two together. Many people my age smoke in the area I live in, so I guess it's easy to stereotype and categorize.
Those were the main two that I really wanted to clear up. Looking at someone, it's very hard to tell if they want to go to college or not, or what they want to do with their life. I have a friend working at McDonald's who wants to go to college for mechanical engineering. I feel like this prompt is a good eye-opener for those who judge books by their cover; sometimes things truly are not what they seem. A lot can be hidden by a messy haircut, a pretty smile, or a face full of makeup... or any other trait that people use to judge others. - Maddie
