Worms do not have lungs. They breathe through their skin through the transfer of oxygen absorbed by their skin. Since they don't inhale they must remain wet at all times so the transfer of dissolved oxygen can take place. They coat themselves in mucous especially in dryer conditions to keep from suffocating.
Worms don't have any teeth, but they do have a mouth. Since they don't have teeth they suck food through their mouths by the use of a powerful pharynx. They have a gizzard much like a chicken and it helps them grind their food. This is why it's important for them to swallow minerals made from stone to help grind the food. Well it's a given, of course, that adults are bigger, but the only way to tell the difference between a young worm and an adult worm is by the clitellum. If a worm has a clitellum (the thick band or ring) then you know that it's an adult. Ashleigh

Scorpions have eight legs like their cousins – spiders, mites and ticks. They look a little like small lobsters, with a pair of pincers and a thin, segmented tail that curves over their back. They can be found on every continent around the world, except Antarctica, but they’re most common in deserts and areas of hot, dry lands.
Scorpions have a cool method for catching their food. When hungry, a scorpion will quickly grab its prey with its pincers, and then whip its telson (which the poisonous tip of their tail) forward to sting and kill the unlucky victim. Scorpions don’t only use their stings to kill their prey – they use it to defend themselves against predators, too, such as snakes, lizards and birds. Whilst the venom of most scorpions is only powerful enough to kill small creatures, there are around 30-40 species with a sting strong enough to kill a human. Thankfully, humans aren’t on the scorpion’s menu, and will only attack if they feel threatened or harmed in any way. Ashleigh P.S. sorry that there is no picture, it wouldn't work :( Arctic fox's (also known as Polar fox's or white fox's) can survive in temperatures as low as -58˚F (-14˚C). Arctic foxes have round, furry bodies, short legs, short ears and small muzzles, all of which help to reduce the surface area exposed to cold air. Their deep, thick fur is the warmest of all animals.
Camouflage is important, so they shed their fur. Those that live on rocky shores shed and are brown. In spring they shed revealing grey fur underneath. Arctic fox tails are around 13 inches long and are used mostly for balance, but they also are a blanket, as it can be curled around their face to protect their nose from the cold. The Arctic fox roam the Arctic Tundra like: Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Russia, Norway, Scandinavia and Iceland. Arctic foxes are very mobile, and will travel long distances across land and sea ice looking for food. They live in burrows which can be hundreds of years old and passed down through generations of foxes. Arctic foxes are omnivores, although a large amount of their diet is made up of small mammals including lemmings, voles and hares, lemmings are their favorite. Ashleigh My Daddy is a member in a car club that holds car shows in Hinsdale, NH. He sometimes also goes to the Kimball's car show in Jaffrey to look at the cars while I play in the grass. I think car shows are boring, but people have different tastes. I do get to play with my friends if they are there. I also like to get ice-cream at the food truck in Hinsdale, NH.
My Dad has a website if you want to look at it. cruisingragtops.weebly.com. The sad thing is Daddy's website doesn't have a lot of view's compared to mine. Please check it out. Not to point fingers, but I like the Rat Rod on his site. There are lots of cars like: Centurions, Rat Rods, Corvettes, Chevys, Fords and Pontiacs. My Dad also runs the website for his car club. He designed it and updates it. This site has lots of great pictures. You can check it out here: www.nowandthenvehicles.weebly.com . The picture at the top is my Dad's car by the way. Ashleigh Neptune is the forth biggest planet. When it was first discovered in 1846, Neptune became the most distant planet in the Solar System. But then Pluto took over in 1930, and Neptune became the second-most distant planet.
With an equatorial radius of only 24,764 km, Neptune is smaller than all the other gas giants in the Solar System: Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus. Neptune is bigger than Uranus by about 18%. Because it's smaller but more massive, Neptune has a lot higher density than Uranus. The gravity of Neptune is only 17% stronger than Earth gravity. That’s the closest to Earth gravity in the whole Solar System. Neptune is 17 times big as Earth, but also has almost 4 times larger. The first person to have seen Neptune was likely Galileo, who marked it as a star in one of his drawings. However, since he did not identify it as a planet, he is not credited with the discovery. Imagine a hurricane with winds that go up to 2,100 km/hour. As you can probably imagine, scientists are puzzled how an icy cold planet like Neptune can get its cloud tops t0 move so fast. One idea is that the cold temperatures and the flow of fluid gasses in the planet’s atmosphere might reduce friction to the point that it’s easy to generate winds that move so quickly. Ashleigh A predator that manages to snag a puffer before it has a chance to inflate won’t feel lucky for long. Mostly all puffer fish contain tetrodotoxin, which is a substance that makes them bad tasting and often deadly to fish. Tetrodotoxin is deadly to mostly everything and is 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide. There is enough toxin in one puffer fish to kill 30 adult men, and there is no known cure.
Amazingly, the meat of some puffer fish is really good. In Japan it is called fugu and it is very expensive and only made by fully trained, licensed chefs who know that one bad cut means certain death for a customer. In fact, many such deaths occur yearly. Most puffer fish are found in tropical ocean waters, but some species live in brackish and fresh water. The puffer fish has a long, tapered body with a big head. Some have markings and colors to advertise their toxicity, while others have more muted or cryptic coloring to blend in with their environment. Ashleigh Jared and Simon and Mallory go into their new house which looks like shacks stacked on top on each over. There were three bedrooms. One for Jared and Simon, one for Mallory, and one for their mother.
Lots of dust piled the attic, dinning room, living room and kitchen. A dumbwaiter sat on the first floor, showing a small space a little kid could crawl though. At the top of it was a secret room with tons of books and a desk. Near the desk was a painting of their great uncle Arthur that looked years old. The attic stairs were dusty and old, looking more and more scraped and dented each step. In the attic sat a chest with a field guide which told about all the creatures that lived in SpiderWick. In the boys room was two drawers and two lumpy mattresses. Their mother and sister got the same thing. Ashleigh |
