Crabs have 10 legs. The first pair are its claws. Crabs live in all the world's oceans in fresh water, and on land. There are over 4500 species of crabs. There are hermit crabs, king crabs, porcelain crabs, horseshoe crabs crab lice and many more crabs.
Male crabs tend to often fight with each other over females or hiding holes. The Pea Crab is the smallest known species that is just a few millimeters wide. The largest species is the Japanese Spider Crab, with a leg span up to 13 feet. Crabs are omnivores meaning they eat both meat and plants. They feed mainly on algae, but they eat worms too. The most consumed species of crab in the world is the Japanese Blue Crab. Like Spiders, crabs have legs that bend at the joints. Swimming crabs use their front legs to paddle in water. Male crabs have blue colored claws. Females have red colored. Crabs have good eyes. They can see if there in their burrow or under a rock. I don't like crabs. I don't like them because of their claws. Though I do like them because of their little face. Ashleigh

Lucky is a very good boy. Though most of the time he is hungry. He likes to chew his bone. He also likes to play tug-of-war and fetch. Lucky has long ears that hear very well. Lucky is always looking for attention. We never give Lucky a bath. The rain does.
He is also looking for food. Lucky will eat anything except for eggs, chocolate, and grapes. One time, he ate a fly! We had to get some one to take care of him when we were going on vacation. When we got back from vacation, he was so happy to see us. Lucky's only 6 years old, and he has brown eyes. He does not like to be touched on the nose. His Birthday is March 12th. We like to give him a bone on his birthday. Lucky will destroy any toy we give him. When I go near dog hair my eye gets red. Ashleigh The kraken can eat anything... even sharks! It is said the sea monster eats humans, squids, fish, whales, pirates, and sailors. Krakens are the biggest, and meanest animal on earth. The kraken lives in the seas off of Norway, Iceland, and in the Scandinavian sea.
Krakens live in very deep water. What ever they see they eat. The kraken is mostly called a sea monster. I don't like Krakens. I don't like them because they are scary, and big. If I ever saw a kraken, I would probably faint. Krakens use their suckers for holding their food. The giant squid and the kraken are closely related except the kraken is bigger and a different color. No reptile, mammal, or amphibian can beat the size of the kraken. I think krakens are ugly. Some people don't believe in krakens. Krakens never come out of the deep water. They don't want to be caught on a fish hook. Though if a fish hook did get a kraken, it would probably eat the person that hooked it. Ashleigh Today I read a new book called ''Magic Tree House: Leprechaun in Late Winter.'' One snowy day, Jack and Annie went to the Tree House. They needed to go to Ireland to inspire a girl named Augusta. Though Jack got her mad and she to Jack and Annie to her Aunt. Her Aunt told a story about fairies called the Shee.
But Augusta did not believe it. Then her Aunt named Mary told her that she was not happy. Augusta was mad again. So Jack and Annie put on a play for her. Jack sang, and Annie played the Irish whistle that Teddy had gave them. Jack told the story that Mary did. Though everything he said happened. 1000 of little fairies appeared. When he said the last line witch was: In a swirl they leave, so wild so free, with a lonely girl, to the hill of the Shee. At that very moment they disappeared. In place was a leprechaun named Willie that helped them save Augusta. Augusta was inspired. Ashleigh Today I read a new book called'' Magic Tree House: Abe Lincoln at Last.'' One rainy day jack and Annie went to the tree house. They needed to look for a feather for Penny. But before they could look for the feather in Abe Lincoln's office, a boy named Tad, and a bigger boy named Willie saw them. Tad made Jack come under Abe's bed.
Though while he was up there, he found out that Tad and Willie were Lincoln's children. Jack ran down and bumped into Annie. They needed to have a little talk with Abe Lincoln. Though he was too busy. So they made a wish to have a talk with him with the magic Teddy gave them. When they did, It brought them back further in time. A boy named Sam gave them a feather. Jack was confused. When the magic ended, they saw Abe Lincoln. Then Jack understood. Sam was Abe Lincoln. After that surprise, they went home. Ashleigh Rabbits and bunnies are the same animal. There's no difference in breed or species. Female rabbits are called does. Male rabbits are called bucks. Young rabbits are called kits, or kittens.
Rabbits live in big groups. More than half of the world’s rabbits live in North America. Rabbits have long ears which can be as long as 4 inches. Rabbits have a lifespan of around 10 years. Rabbits are herbivores that eat plants. I like bunnies and rabbits. I like them because their so cute. Rabbits are born with their eyes closed and without fur. In the summer, rabbits eat grass, wild strawberries, garden vegetables and some flowers. In the winter, they survive on woody stems and even the bark of some trees. We got a new car. It is a red 1972 Buick Centurion. It is old, and it has a top that can be put down. When we bought it, it was loud because it had a hole in its exhaust and it needed fixing. We took it to a mechanic and it needed exhaust manifolds. Because it was an old car, no one made manifolds for it any more. My Dad had to find some old ones to put on the car. Two or three weeks later, our car was back and a lot less noisy! The car was shining. Last week, we took the car to my karate tournament in Franconia, New Hampshire. My Aunt Michelle came up to see me in it. She let me play on her phone on the way. We had a good time. At the tournament I won two 1st places and one 3rd place. After the tournament, we went to McDonald's. The line was so big, and we ate at a picnic table outside. The line was also too big to get an ice-cream-cone after lunch. When we left, I fell into a deep sleep. I slept for hours!. Then I woke up... After leaving McDonald's, we went for a drive on the Kancamagus Highway. It is one of the most scenic highways in New England. We saw the coolest thing. Well, my Dad and Aunt did. I slept through it. A picture of what they saw is above. THE MOUNTAINS! For the rest of the ride I was in a big deep sleep and didn't get up until we were home. My Dad and Aunt loved their ride in the convertible. The rest of us slept through the entire ride. It is much windier in the back of the car and my hair got messy. Next time, I want to sit in front!
Ashleigh This quote comes from the poet and author Atticus Finch (who I'd honestly love to do a quote collection post about), and I found it while looking through quotes to post underneath one of my Instagram photos. While the quote seems to be in a descriptive form of someone, I like the metaphor it aims to convey- that metaphor being that while you may have a fear of moving forward in life or making big decisions that can affect your life, it can be just as scary (if not scarier) to perpetually stay still and not move forward in life.
If you've read this blog before, you likely know that life progression is something often discussed by my dad and I. My dad endorses people setting goals and striving to reach them, while I tend to encourage people to never stop learning and choosing to learn. In any case, I like this quote because of its similarity to our own message of not being afraid to make a change in your life to strive for something you've wanted. While I'm still young to make big decisions and take chances that'll drastically affect my future, I can certainly say that I hate "staying still" or not progressing forward in my life. I'm constantly moving and constantly changing- just not in a way that'll change my near future too greatly. Obviously, my choices and changes will amount to who I am in the long run, but it's not necessarily a near-term change. Recent changes I've made to my life include a smaller friend circle, higher work-load, and more time spent volunteering at my karate school. I wasn't happy with the drama and negativity in my life, or really the people I was spending time with... so I made the change and cut back my circle of friends to people who I love and am comfortable being myself with. I'm aiming to achieve an Associate's Degree when I graduate in 2019, so obviously, my workload needed to be raised. This was a necessary change that will end up eventually shaping my future, but I sincerely believe it's for the better. Finally, I'll be testing for my Sensei title in December- a huge step for me in my karate life and something I've wanted for a long time. The extra time spent in the dojo is not only necessary for my title, but also something I love doing- while I still get a little flustered in front of large classes, I love being able to help people one-on-one and I enjoy teaching people new things that'll help their form or technique. These choices and changes are big for me, right now. In 10 years, will it matter if I cut back my friend circle? Well, maybe. Who I choose to associate myself with could have a huge impact on who I become in life. Adding extra time to focus on my education is also vital to where I'll be in 10 years... and finally, acquiring that sensei title is something that will never expire or fade away for me. While the choices I make now may pale in comparison to the choices I might make as an adult, they are in no way any less important because they are stones in the path leading to my adulthood. I am not afraid of heights... and I'm already beginning to fly. It's never too early (or too late) to make a choice, make a change, that can affect your future for the better. - Maddie The porcupine is the prickliest of rodents. Its Latin name is quill pig. There are more than two dozen porcupine species. The coat of quills is to protect it from predators. Some quills, (from the African porcupine), are nearly a foot long.
Porcupines have soft hair, but on their back, sides, and tail it is usually sharp quills. These quills lie flat until a porcupine is threatened, then the quills point up. Porcupines cannot shoot them at predators. Quills have sharp tips that make them hard to remove once they are stuck in another animal's skin. Porcupines grow new quills to replace the ones they lose. Porcupines are found in North and South America. They are also good climbers and spend much of their time in trees. The North American porcupine is the only species that lives in the U.S. and Canada. It is also the largest of all porcupines. North American porcupines use their large front teeth to satisfy a healthy appetite for wood. Other porcupine species live in Africa, Europe, and Asia. These animals usually live on the ground in deserts, grasslands, and forests. There are 29 species of porcupines. Babies have soft quills at birth, which harden within a few days. Most young porcupines are ready to live on their own at about two months of age. Ashleigh Today I read a new book called ''Magic Tree House: A Crazy Day With Cobras.'' One nice day, Jack and Annie were walking home from school when they saw Teddy and Kathleen. Teddy told them that he accidentally turned Penny to stone. To cure her, they had to find an emerald that was shaped like a rose in a place called the red fort.
It was hard to do, but to their surprise, they did it! They had to go to a parade and save an elephant, which they led into the wild and found its baby. On their way back to the tree house, they dropped the rose into a cobras nest. It was hard to get it, which they did, but then the elephant that they had saved, saved them. Then the elephant helped them get to the tree house. Ashleigh Blob fish eat what ever floats by. Blob fish live in deep water off of Tasmania and Australia. They are rarely seen by humans. A blob fish can live for 130 years. Blob fish lay eggs numbering into the thousands.
Blob fish lay pink colored eggs. They stay with their eggs unlike most fish. They sit on top their eggs, or float just above them. Unlike most fish, Blob fish will lay their eggs close to another blob fish. A blob fish's only predator is humans. A blob fish is voted the ugliest animal on the world. I fink there funny looking. A blob fish tastes like crab but a little sweeter. Some blob fish are shaped like the moon, like the one in my picture. There are also ones shaped like a mooched up egg. I like blob fish. I like them because they have big funny lips, tiny eyes, and big body. I like the tiny black eyes, they go good with the mooched up body. When looked straight on, it looks like a human face. A large flap of skin folds over the wide mouth is like a nose. The two eyes are visible as well. The head of a Blob fish weighs a surprising 1/3 of its total body weight. Ashleigh Crows eat a lot of foods, including grains, seeds, nuts, fruits, berries, and many kinds of small animals such as earthworms and mice. They eat many insects, including some crop pests, and also eat aquatic animals such as fish, young turtles, crayfish mussels, and clams. Crows live mostly in North America. They also can often be found in forests, woodlands, and fields. I like crows.
I like them because of their color, their long talons, and their big beak. Crows start mating in late May or June. Crows mate for life. The only exceptions are if the male crow is killed or the birds can not keep the breeding line going. Crows are actually some of the most intelligent for hunting and are very adaptable to their surroundings. At birth, a baby crow is called a chick. Crows are wild birds, not pets. All female birds are called hens. Some crows can have 20 babies. Crows are hard to see in the night because their black. Crows nests are very big. It looks like a eagles nest, but a little bite smaller. Eagles eat birds and small mammals. Eagles are not closely related to each other. The nest of a eagle is made of tree branches and other stuff like grass, twigs, or leaves. An eagle makes its nest really big in tall places.
The bald eagle, with its snowy-feathered (not bald) head and white tail, makes a huge nest. Bald eagles remain mostly in Alaska and Canada. A bald eagles nest can reach 10 feet wide, and 20 feet deep. As many as 4,000 eagles can gather on a riverbank to catch spawning salmon. Bald eagles can dive at up to 100 miles an hour to snatch a fish from the water. When babies are born, the parents go and get food for them. A baby eagle is called a fledgling or an eaglet. In general, a baby eagle is called an eaglet. I like eagles. I like them because they look cool when they dive, they fly fast, and they catch fish in a cool way. I bet they can even eat a dog. Though I doubt they would. Ashleigh I close my eyes, Only for a moment, And the moment's gone... All my dreams, Pass before my eyes, a curiosity. Dust in the wind, All they are is dust in the wind. Same old song, Just a drop of water, In an endless sea. All we do, Crumbles to the ground Though we refuse to see. Dust in the wind, All we are is dust in the wind... Now, don't hang on, Nothing lasts forever but the immense sky. It slips away, And all your money won't another minute buy. Dust in the wind, All we are is dust in the wind. Dust in the wind, Everything is dust in the wind. That song by the band Kansas always reminds me how fleeting our lives are. Always remember to tell the people you love that you love them, because you never know when the last time you see them will be. If you love someone, let them know it... not just through your words, but through your actions as well. Call them up to say hello, or stop by and take them to lunch. Treat people as you want yourself to be treated and you will get through life with few regrets in that regard, Because in the end, all we are IS dust in the wind. Goldfish can eat food such as shrimp, earth worms, lettuce, peas, oranges, krill, daphnia, duckweed, blood worms, and other shrimps. Goldfish live in China Japan and Korea. Goldfish also can even be found in waters all throughout the United States. Goldfish enjoy other goldfish. They like to play behind plants and nibble on real ones.
You can also find goldfish at Chinese restaurants. The Goldfish eggs should hatch in two or three days depending on the temperature of the water in your tank. First it is important to realize that the eggs must be fed by a male Goldfish, after the eggs have been laid by a female. Though if you do not have a tank or a goldfish it is okay. Goldfish are a lot of work! I like Goldfish. Goldfish are as edible as any other freshwater fish. I think it would be sad if you ate a goldfish and it probably wouldn't taste very good. Most goldfish enemies are removed if they are kept in an aquarium. Though if they are not in an aquarium, they will have to deal with cats. Goldfish do sleep, but they don't close their eye's because they don't have any eyelids! Goldfish have several different fins that help them move from place to place. A goldfish cannot swim backwards. I hope you like goldfish. Because I do. Ashleigh Surprisingly, I don't think I've covered any quotes by Janis Joplin yet! I say "surprisingly" because she's among one of my favorite older artists to listen to, and in my opinion she was a phenomenal singer who died well before her time. I've decided to post this quote collection to top off my posts for the week- I'm tired and I need sleep, but I'm also dedicating this post to my dad and his recent artwork purchase. I'm sure there will be a proper post showing off the painting when it arrives, but in short, my dad found a talented foreign artist who does psychedelic paintings and he ordered a painting of Janis Joplin (among others). This inspired me to go hunting for quotes, and what follows are the quotes that I found and liked.
"Don't compromise yourself. You're all you've got." "You are what you settle for. You are only as much as you settle for." "You can destroy your now, worrying about tomorrow." "Being an intellectual creates a lot of questions and no answers. You can fill your life up with ideas and still go home lonely. All you really have that really matters are feelings. That's what music is to me.” "We don't forgive people because they deserve it. We forgive them because they need it- because we need it. We all need it." "I always wanted to be an artist, whatever that was. Like other chicks wanted to be stewardesses. I read. I painted. I thought." Time, most simply defined, is a man-made construct composed of digits and calculations. Time comes in the form of decades, years, months, weeks, days, hours... and keeps on going. Time is measured in fragments both large and small- rotations around the sun being on the larger side of the equation, and fractions of seconds broken down into stutters of movement being the smaller half of time. Time is measured in age by year, by the wrinkles on an old person's face, by the scars collected on a body, by the aches and sores and hardships that befall a person as the count of their rotations grow.
Time is measured in memories. Time can seem to pass in the blink of an eye, or can be frozen for an eternity. Time is the cry of a newborn baby, followed by the laugh of a toddler and the tears of an injured teenager who's had their heart broken for the first time. Time is the persistent gunfire with changing excuses. Time is looking back on a family photo and recalling to the familiar faces who no longer grace the world with their presence, time is the realization that no one can stay too long... time is a reminder that nothing can last forever. Time can be a cruel mistress. Time can steal everything away. Time has control over the lives of everyone, and even though we all tend to think that we are the designers of our own lives, of our own tragedies, time will prove time and time again that we are helpless to random acts of the world. Time will prove that even the most innocent things will be lost. Time will prove that years after a traumatic event, it will not be erased. Time leaves an imprint, because though you may be forgotten, time never will be... time leaves a stain that is passed down through generations; time never leaves a person untouched or a mind left void of a memory of loss. Time, ultimately, is whatever we make of it. Time is something given to everyone. It is a timer without an end that we can fathom, it is unpredictability that we cannot control, but it is also all that we have control over. It is what we are given the most of, yet what we simultaneously waste the most. We all try so hard to make our use of time perfect, but it's a game that's not worth playing. Time will always have the upper hand. You can live your life to the best of your ability, and regardless of however well you lived, time will still close your casket for you. Time will exist long after we have all disappeared, and it existed far before we ever came into existence- we've just found a way to define it. Yet, even with all of our definitions, it is to my belief that something so ancient can never truly be put into one singular box- and all that time is, is an illusion of control that we can never have. - Maddie In 3 days, I'll be turning 16.
Wow. Those words impact me a lot more than they should, if I'm honest. This year, I've failed to notice how quickly the time has been passing. I've lost track of time in general, if I'm honest- starting last summer, everything has mushed together into a giant glob of memories that makes it feel as though things that happened a year ago could've happened yesterday. I don't quite know what to call this effect, other than the side effects of growing up. I always remember that when I was little, I was always told to appreciate being young while I could. I remember being told that time moves faster when you get older, and I also remember never quite believing that statement. I remember sitting in the back seat of a stuffy car for 6-7 hours on the way to New Jersey, wondering how anything could possibly make that go any faster. Oddly enough, 8 years later I'm wondering how I ever made such a big deal over such a simple trip. The last time I traveled to NJ, the states seemed to fly by outside the window of the car and the entire visit seemed to end before it even began. It was surreal. The conclusion I've come to is this: when you're little, you don't have any true responsibilities. Sure, you have concerns and MINOR responsibilities- i.e. keeping your room clean and your homework done, but as you get older, you tend to realize that there's far more you need to take care of. You begin to have realizations about your mental and physical health, just how much effort is required to maintain your schoolwork, a job if you have one, a relationship, friendships... everything just builds up until suddenly, you're so focused with trying to balance your life that you don't notice how fast the world is moving around you. I can't imagine this whirlwind slowing down as you get older. I'm only a high school student, and already I feel as though my world has been turned around completely as I arrange my life. When you get to college, I imagine stress builds further as you try your hardest to stay on top of hard classes while balancing out social life and work issues. Throw a relationship into that mix as well, and you've got a recipe for 5 years going by in a flash. Fast forward to having kids and a family to look after... I can hardly imagine how time must fly then. I hear my dad talk about it, but much like my 7 year old self, I don't think I'll quite understand what he means until I finally have a family of my own. I can only hope that I can be even half the parent my dad is, if I'm honest- because despite how fast it may seem that his clock is spinning, he does an excellent job of balancing his time between my sister and I, our schooling, his own work, karate, and everything else. As I near the end of this post, I don't think I have a point... if anything, enjoy the time you have. Never lose sight of what's important to you. Make sure you balance out your sacrifices... is the activity you do worth the time spent doing it.... and so on and so forth. You get the idea. Don't waste your time on things that aren't important to you. You'll find life is a lot more rewarding. - Maddie I'll admit, I haven't slept yet tonight. I took a long nap earlier because I had a migraine, and it completely totaled my sleeping schedule. I played xBox until roughly 2:15, and then decided to call it a night and go upstairs to bed. 2 hours later, I've been lying awake and staring at my ceiling and I've decided to put my mind to work and write the 4 blog posts that I know need to be done before I can see anyone tomorrow. What these posts will amount to, I have no idea. Right now, I feel completely un-inspired and drained, if I'm honest.
I'd like to talk about myself for a moment- and I promise it won't be egotistical bragging. Recently, I've been getting more headaches than normal and in general, I've felt more stressed. As my schoolwork has picked up, I've felt an intense pressure to stay on top of everything while maintaining good grades. I've also been studying for my sensei test (I'll be testing in December) and in November, I'll be busier than ever as I pick up an additional course and begin driver's ed. While this year has certainly amounted to be quite productive for me, it's beginning to take its toll and I can see it in my own levels of motivation. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like giving up on any of these large goals- my motivation for them has never been higher. I'm quite driven to accomplish everything. My lack of motivation comes when I start to set aside time to spend with my friends, boyfriend, or even just downtime to play a game or take a hot bath. By the time my day is done, I'm drained. I've had an exhausting day both mentally and physically, and I can't do much else aside from collapse into my favorite chair and sit there. I'm not inspired to talk, to write, or to do much else than rest... and it sucks. All of my energy gets poured into my schooling, my karate, and even my cooking, now. Of course, on the weekend I do have some time to myself. Usually, I end up spending the most time hanging with my boyfriend, either watching movies, hiking, or just sitting about drinking tea and talking about life. It's relaxing and can be a nice break from the week. However, sometimes I feel that I don't divide time evenly between my family, my friends, and my boyfriend (no thanks to many snide remarks from friends about how much time I spend with Seth) and guilt ends up eating away at me from the inside out... and that in and of itself is enough to soil a perfectly good day. Tomorrow, I know exactly what I'm going to do. I'm going to try to wake up decently early, and I'm going to take a long, hot shower. After that, I'm going to exfoliate my face and use my favorite bubble clay mask. While I wait for it to set, I'm going to make myself some tea and either watch youtube or a good movie. I'm going to pamper myself, and I'm going to relax. I'll then go to karate, hopefully have a wonderful class, and then come home and make a delicious dinner. I'm determined to have a good day. - Maddie Pandas are mammals that have a big appetite for bamboo. Pandas eat for the first half the day. It hungrily the plucks stalks with wrist bones and thumbs. Pandas will sometimes eat birds or rodents as well. Wild pandas live only in China.
High bamboo forests are cool and wet—just as pandas like it. They may climb as high as 13,000 feet in the mountains to feed on bamboo. Pandas are often seen with their hind legs stretched out before them. Pandas are also good tree climbers, and swimmers. Pandas have sense of smell that males use to avoid each other and to find females for mating in the spring. After five-months, females give birth to a cub or two, though they cannot care for both twins. The blind babies are 5 ounces at birth and cannot crawl until they reach three months of age. They are born white, and develop their much-loved coloring later. Ashleigh |
