Now we play chase inside... but outside... it's a mess. So, he runs up the porch steps, with me following...and before I get to the steps, I stop. I though I saw something squirm near the rock wall at the side of our house. I look around and see a Garter snake sliver into a nearby hole in the rocks. I when to the porch and took Jupiter into the house. The next day... The next day (Memorial Day) Daddy, who was pulling weeds from the walk way, let me look for the Garter snake. I saw it... We had to stop at Rite Aid to get hair ties and a brush for my hair. At every stop we made, I did my hair in a better ponytail than before, I don't know how to do a braid yet. We stopped at McDonald's and I saw one of my friends. I got a chocolate milk and a sausage McMuffin (No Egg). Once we got back on the road, I started to take pictures with my iPad. I tried to play some of my games, but the sun got in my eyes. We got lost, and had to ask for directions to route 100. At route 100 we got on to route 2 and ate at a Chinese buffet. Then we noticed we were right next to the town we needed. We took tons of pictures and had a great time shopping at an Indian souvenir store. I got a jewelry box and some bear claws! I also got candy. Maddie got a bag and a dress, and Daddy bought some Indian pottery. Finally we headed home , happy we went for that trip. Ashleigh P.S. Most of the pictures were on my iPad and i didn't know how to get them to this computer.
Armadillo is a Spanish word meaning “little armored one” which is a good name for this animal since it has bony plates that cover its back, head, legs, and tail of most of these odd looking creatures. Armadillos are the only living mammals that wear the shells. They vary widely in size and color, from the 6-inch-long, salmon-colored pink fairy armadillo to the 5-foot-long, dark-brown giant armadillo.
Others have black, red, darkish gray, or yellowish coloring. In fact, only the three-banded armadillo can roll into a ball, curling its head and back feet and contorting its shell into a hard ball that protects it from predators. Armadillos live in temperate and warm habitats, including rain forests, grasslands, and semi-deserts. Most species dig burrows and sleep for 16 hours per day. They have very poor eyesight, and utilize their keen sense of smell to hunt. Strong legs and huge front claws are used for digging, and long, sticky tongues for extracting ants and termites from their tunnels. In addition to bugs, armadillos eat small vertebrates, plants, and some fruits. Armadillos are great swimmers. They can hold their breath for 6 minutes when they try. The armor of an armadillo is made up of bone. Some armadillos are very small, while others are huge. The smallest is the pink fairy armadillo, which is about 6 inches (15 centimeters) long. Giant armadillos are the largest species, and are about 5 feet (1.5 meters) long. Ashleigh A few days ago I finished a book called Fablehaven and it is one of the most enjoyable fantasies I've ever read so lets get on with the story.
One day a girl named Kendra and her brother Seth were going to their Grandpa Sorenson's house because their parents (their mom and dad) were going on vacation for seventeen days. As their SUV rolled over the two lane highway, Seth dug in the back for snacks for the rest of the ride. Finally, they came to a dirt driveway with WARNING and BEWARE signs. The driveway came to an end, and a big-sized house made of oak with butterflies, bees, and dragonfly's surrounding it waited for them. A big flower garden stood in the front of the house along with a big barn at the side of the house. The inside was also in good condition. Dale and Lena, the helpers/caretakers helped take in bags from the back of the SUV. Grandpa showed them to their room which happened to be a playroom in the attic and said their was tons of things to do, he also told them a swimming pool was at the back of the house. He then told them two rules: never go in the woods, and never go in the barn. The playroom had a dollhouse, a toy chest filled with stuffed toys, and dolls, a telescope that was placed near a window, two big beds, and a chicken in a cage named Goldilocks. Before he left, grandpa gave Kendra three keys and told her to find what they unlocked. Seth ran straight for the chicken and grandpa told him they had to water and feed her and collect her eggs. They could also take her out of the cage but had to put her back before dark. As Seth pet the soft golden feathers, Kendra got into bed and went to sleep. The next day, grandpa joined them for breakfast at the table. Lena had made cream of wheat with raspberry's, milk, sugar, jam, and butter. It was very good. After eating, Kendra put on her swim suit, then stood at the edge of the pool putting on sunblock. Seth didn't put on sunblock and was already in the pool swimming. Seth poked his head out of the water and Kendra dabbed some sunblock on his face, and he backed away. Kendra had brought a mirror from the house and as she stopped swimming she noticed a lot of bees, dragonfly's, and butterflies hovered above it. Seth turned over the mirror and bees and dragonflies flipped it over again. Seth grabbed it and started running while the swarm of insects flew off. Kendra got out of the pool, grabbed the towel and went back to the attic to get changed. That night, Kendra looked for one of the three key holes and found one, it was a small jewelry box. The next day, Seth and Kendra got up, ate breakfast, and went to the attic again. Then Seth chose to break the rule and go into the woods, he asked Kendra to come, but she didn't want to break the rule. As Seth went into the woods, he saw a porcupine and screamed as it came toward him. Seth finally shooed it away. He continued down the trail until he came to a fork in the path. He went left. Soon he came to an ivy shack and wondered if grandpa new the shack was there. He went to the entryway and saw an old woman with ragged clothes sitting on a tree stump eating a piece of rope. She tried to get him to stick his hand in a box that had something rattling in it. He turned and ran but before he did, he found out that the woman chewing the rope... was a witch! As he ran through the woods, he got hit by pebbles and rocks and thought the witch was chasing him even though she wasn't. He tripped over a wire that he didn't see when he came and didn't look back to see what was chasing him. Instead, he rushed to the house and up to the attic to tell Kendra. While Seth was gone Kendra had found a tree house and started a puzzle. She also found out they have milking cows in the barn and give the insects milk to keep the garden wildly. The next day, Seth was out on the lawn with Kendra and found the milk. Kendra drank some and looked at a dragonfly and saw it as a fairy. Then Seth drank some and saw it as a fairy also. Their grandpa called them inside and Seth found a fairy skull in grandpa's office on his desk. Grandpa told them not to break the rule and they both got sent to the attic for the rest of the day. The next day, Seth tried to catch a fairy and didn't fail. He kept it in the attic but the next morning it had turned into an imp. The other fairies didn't like what he did, and turned Seth into a walrus. Grandpa took him to the witch named Muriel Taggert and untied one of the knots. Muriel then undid the spell so he was back to his normal form. The next day, Grandpa told them that tomorrow was Midsummer eve. Midsummer eve is a time when monsters come to the house. Kendra and Seth helped carve jack-o-lanterns and Dale took Seth to their golem named Hugo. When it was sunset grandpa took them to the attic and told them not to open the window or door until sun up. He put a circle of salt around their beds and told them it would protect them. When Grandpa left, Seth looked out the window and saw a baby with two wolves using him or her as bait. Seth tried to save it but it was a trap, the baby turned into a goblin and the wolves turned into a twelve foot long centipede with two sets of wings. Goldilocks clucked wildly. Dale came in with a shotgun and led the monsters out of the room. Kendra closed the door and for the rest of the night they heard babies and laughs, and foot steps on the roof, though they didn't open the window. In the morning, they when down and saw the damage. Everything was ruined! They went to the yard and found a metal statue of Dale and found footprints going into the woods. They followed the footprints to a well, which contained stew... not poisonous stew. Just next, out of the bushes came a satyr! The satyr took the stew and ran behind a bush. Kendra and Seth followed. An ogress came thumping up the hill near the well. It chased them until it gave up. Kendra and Seth followed the satyr until they came in contact with another satyr. The satyr's names were Doren and Newel. They pointed out how to get back to the house. Once back at the ruined house, they went to the barn to see if there was anything that could help them. Instead, they milked a gigantic cow and got all milked. Once in the attic they found a message from Goldilocks saying: I'm GRAM. They couldn't believe it! They took her to the Muriel who undid the spell but they had to untie the final knot. Grandma was relived to see them and Kendra and Seth explained everything. They went to a troll named Nero he told them Grandpa was in the Forgotten Chapel with Lena. Grandma and Kendra and Seth raced to the forgotten chapel, but Muriel's puppet named Mendigo captured Grandma and Seth. Kendra ran for she had no magic, thus she could not be harmed. She went to the fairy queen and had to get her tears the gigantic cow's milk and blood. Getting those things was easy, but now she needed to get fairies to drink it. Minute after Minute passed, but no fairy would drink it. Finally one tried it and it became bigger and soon all the fairy's were drinking it. They flew to the Forgotten Chapel when they kissed the imps, they turned into fairy's. Even though many died in battle the fairies healed one another and soon all was well. Ashleigh Live life, help life, and most of all, respect life for what it is. Life won't last forever, but long enough to have children, for them to have children, and plenty more for the world to be mostly full. Your should go with the good side of life, rather then the bad.
Life is better when you follow these rules: Effort, Etiquette, Sincerity, Character, and Self-control. If someone special to you died, they are better to be up there, where they don't have to go through all the pain they put into seeing you one last time. Just like Lucky who used to be our dog... It's better if you defend your self from robbers and other bad people to help you move on in life. A life cycle is a definition of what an animal goes through during it's lifetime. Birds go from the egg, to the chick, to the adult. Amphibians go from the egg, to the larva, to the adult. Plants go from the seed, to the seedling , to the flowering plant. Insect go from the egg, to the larva, to the pupa, to the adult. Even a human has a life cycle. A human goes from a baby, then a toddler, then an older child, then a teenager, then an adult, and finally you marry someone. I'm not sure if marrying someone is part of the life cycle, but anyway, you get the idea. Ashleigh Catfish are a type of fish that belong to the group of ray-finned fish. Catfish mostly live in freshwater rivers or streams found in America. A catfish' length is normally 1-2 feet long, though a channel catfish can get up to 4.5 feet long. The largest catfish ever caught was a Mekong giant catfish, which was nearly 9 feet long and weighed 646 pounds!
A catfish has about 100,000 taste buds! When a new-born catfish reach 4 inches, it is the size of an index finger. Catfish are the fifth most popular fish in America. More than 447 million pounds of catfish were produced in 1995. Most species have tentacles protruding from the area around the mouth, that look like the whiskers of a cat, which is how they got their name. Not all catfish species have these whiskers, however. Catfish are always bottom-feeders, meaning they feed at the bottom of the water they inhabit. Their diet consists of fish, insects and worms, but they also sometimes feed on small mammals and reptiles. Catfish usually suck in or gulp down their prey instead of biting. A Mekong giant catfish could eat a child... for a snack! Some Catfish live in fresh water. A channel catfish's whiskers can sting you if you touch them. Ashleigh Lemurs are capable of using all their senses that includes the sense of smelling, tasting, hearing and all others. They can smell and understand whenever they find a meal or food to eat mostly anywhere. They know whenever there is a prey nearby so that they become alert and get ready to attack it. Lemurs have gray, or red fur, black and white tails, pointy noses, have mostly white faces... except for around the eyes which are black, and pointy ears like elves.
Lemurs are mostly found in Madagascar. They are also found in Comoro Islands. The word Lemur is Latin and means "spirits of the night". All Lemurs have a long nose and they have four legs. They sit or they stand up but they always walk on all fours. They don’t walk upright as other primates have been known to do. They have thin fur due to the warm locations of where they live. They live in families of up to 15 members. Most of them consist of males, females, and offspring. Though, there are some which are only females and their young. The males have been driven out so they live alone or they form male only families. The females are normally the leaders of the Lemur families. As the other pirates got ready to set sail to find a new place to go, Daddy strolled along making shore they had everything they needed. Though, without trying to find it, he found a piece of paper that looked all torn up. It was rolled up and had a piece of rope tied around it. When he looked at it, it wasn't an ordinary piece of paper.
It was a treasure map! He came running out to show Maddie and Ashleigh. Wow, Let's go! they said. Wait! Yelled Daddy. It could be dangerous! Come on, how bad could it be? Well... ok, I guess. A minute or two later... the anchor had been lifted and they were ready to set sail. Maybe we can make a house were the treasure is, Ashleigh said. Or, Maddie said, we can make a house were the treasure is and make a secret entrance to where it is. We can, Said Daddy. First we need to find it. Maybe, Maddie said we can build it near the water, so we have a view and gold. Don't forget the sapphire's. Said Ashleigh Ashleigh Last time I made a story with my sister Maddie, Seth, and me. This time I will have Daddy, Maddie, and me in it. Hope you enjoy! Chapter 1: Lightning with a chance of Fire...One day, in October, a pirate named Ashleigh who was 8-years-old, Ashleigh's bigger sister Maddie who was 16-years-old, and the captain which was there daddy, which was 52-years-old where sharpening there swords on a big peace of iron they had dragged out of the deep ocean. I'm thirsty, said Ashleigh. Me too, said Maddie. And me three, Said daddy walking over to the water stand.
The pirate running the stand said they had run out of cups, and the worker was going to get some. Oh said Daddy as he went back to tell his daughters. Six or seven minuets later, the pirate that was running the stand, came over and told them a storm was coming, and the worker who was going to get cups got struck by lightning and died. Man, said Daddy. Every time we get a new worker, a storm comes and he gets struck. We should move to Hawaii, I hear the weather there is nice, suggested Ashleigh. It's worth a shot, said Maddie. Just then, a lighting bolt struck the boat causing a fire. Maddie screamed, Daddy panicked, and Ashleigh just stood there, staring at the fire with a surprised look on her face. Maddie, screaming like a five-year-old, took a bucket of water and put out the fire. Ya! Yelled Daddy. Ashleigh just looked at Maddie, looked at Daddy, and walked away... To be continued... A pig’s snout is a good tool for finding food in the ground. Pigs have an good sense of smell. Humans farm pigs for meat like pork, bacon and ham. Sometimes people like to keep pigs as pets.
Wild pigs which are called boars are often hunted in the wild. In some areas of the world, wild boars are the main source of food for tigers. Adult pigs can run at speeds of up to 11mph, or in other words, they can run a seven-minute mile. And when they’re not either squealing or talking to one another, pigs will eat almost anything – including human bones. That is why I will never be a farmer. That and pigs are just to messy for me, I mean seriously... rolling in mud. When kept in a group they will snuggle close to one another, and sleep nose-to-nose. A mother pig is called a sow. Baby pigs are called ‘piglets’. The pig heart valve is the one that is used the most. Ashleigh It all started the day before the trip, we had to drop our dog Lucky off at my sister's friend's house. The next day, a bus arrived and we locked up the house and put our suitcases in the back of the bus. The seats were comfy. One hour later we arrived at the train station and started our adventure. We grabbed window seats on the train to look at the beautiful views on our way from Boston to Chicago. The trip took about nine hours and we ate a good dinner on the train. After dinner, we went to a sleeper car where we each had a cramped bunk to sleep in. At about 6:00 AM, we arrived in Chicago. There, we changed trains to head to San Francisco. When we left Chicago, we rolled though the Great Plains. The plains looked like a big sea of grass. We slept on the train that night, in a large room with regular-sized beds. When we woke up, we were in Nebraska, and Daddy and I got off for a quick picture. We then headed towards Denver. We left Denver in the early afternoon. Then we went through the Rocky Mountains. The mountains had a lot of trees. I could see a good view of the other mountains. The sky was very blue. The clouds looked like big fluffy sheep. We went to bed as the train rolled through Utah, and the next day we got off in San Francisco! We stayed in a hotel and my Grandma bought me a rainbow peacock. We visited an art museum. Daddy try to get me under the picture of the man throwing up a rainbow. I refused. We also dipped our toes in the Pacific ocean, and saw the Golden Gate bridge. Finally we saw the town in a V.W. bus. We took a plane home and was happy we had Lucky back. Ashleigh Rest in peace puppy!
