My daughter and I had a discussion about the meaning of songs. Sometimes a song holds a lot of meaning for a person, even though the meaning may not be the same as the singer's intent. Below. are five songs that have or had meaning for me at some point in my life. The game is for Maddie to figure out what meaning the song had for me. I have listed the songs in no particular order. It's Never Too Late Steppenwolf Your eyes are moist, you scream and shout As though you were a man possessed From deep inside comes rushing forth All the anguish you suppressed Upon your wall hangs your degree Your parents craved so much for you And though you're trained to make your mark You still don't quite know what to do It's never to late to start all over again To love the people you caused the pain And help them learn your name Oh, no, not too late It's never too late to start all over again Well, it's much too late to start again To try and find a little bliss So on your woman and your child You release your bitterness You drift apart some more each day You feel the guilt and loneliness And the God of your childhood you can't find To save you from your emptiness It's never too late to start all over again To love the people you caused the pain And help them learn your name Oh, no, not too late It's never too late to start all over again You say you've only got one life to live And when you're dead you're gone Your family comes to your grave And with tears in their eyes They tell you, you did something wrong "You left us alone" Tell me who's to say after all is done And you're finally gone, you won't be back again You can find a way to change today You don't have to wait 'til then It's never too late to start all over again To love the people you caused the pain And help them learn your name Oh, no, not too late It's never too late to start all over again I Need You America We used to laugh, we used to cry We used to bow our heads then, wonder why And now you're gone, I guess I'll carry on And make the best of what you've left to me Left to me, left to me I need you like the flower needs the rain You know I need you, guess I'll start it all again You know I need you like the winter needs the spring You know I need you, I need you And every day, I'd laugh the hours away Just knowing you were thinking of me And then it came that I was put to blame For every story told about me About me, about me I need you like the flower needs the rain You know I need you, guess I'll start it all again You know I need you, I need you I need you like the winter needs the spring You know I need you, guess I'll start it all again You know I need you, I need you I need you like the flower needs the rain You know I need you, guess I'll start it all again You know I need you, I need you I need you like the winter needs the spring You know I need you, guess I'll start it all again You know I need you, I need you Imagine John Lennon Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people living life in peace, you You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will be as one Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will be as one Question Moody Blues Why do we never get an answer When we're knocking at the door With a thousand million questions About hate and death and war? 'Cause when we stop and look around us There is nothing that we need In a world of persecution That is burning in its greed Why do we never get an answer When we're knocking at the door? Because the truth is hard to swallow That's what the war of love is for It's not the way that you say it When you do those things to me It's more the way that you mean it When you tell me what will be And when you stop and think about it You won't believe it's true That all the love you've been giving Has all been meant for you I'm looking for someone to change my life I'm looking for a miracle in my life And if you could see what it's done to me To lose the love I knew Could safely lead me through Between the silence of the mountains And the crashing of the sea There lies a land I once lived in And she's waiting there for me But in the grey of the morning My mind becomes confused Between the dead and the sleeping And the road that I must choose I'm looking for someone to change my life I'm looking for a miracle in my life And if you could see what it's done to me To lose the love I knew Could safely lead me to The land that I once knew To learn as we grow old The secrets of our soul It's not the way that you say it when you do those things to me It's more the way you really mean it when you tell me what will be Why do we never get an answer When we're knocking at the door With a thousand million questions About hate and death and war? When we stop and look around us There is nothing that we need In a world of persecution That is burning in its greed Why do we never get an answer When we're knocking at the door? Nobody Knows Billy Squier I may get around I may laugh a lot Now you'd think that I'd be happy with the life I got Nobody knows Nobody sees Ain't nobody really knows the inner side of me I may seem secure I could have it made You might think you see a lucky man who made the grade Nobody knows what dreams I see Ain't nobody really sure just who they want to be But everybody has a place and time A chance to live A need to find We all got somethin' that we care about I propose you find it out It's not in a book, or a magazine Or the stars who guide our fortunes on the silver screen Nobody knows, it's up to me Ain't nobody who can say it like it outght to be I see my future at the rainbow's end Happy hours, timeless friends And if I ever chance to find my way Rest assured, I will stay You may see your life as a compromise You may live to find the promise dancin' in your eyes Nobody knows, it's meant to be Let the magic of the moment say it all to me Bonus Tracks! - A lot of albums have them, so why not a blog post! I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know Blood Sweat & Tears If I ever leave you, baby You can say I told you so And if I ever hurt you You know, I hurt myself as well Is that any way for a man to carry on Do you think I want my loved one gone Said I love you More than you'll ever know More than you'll ever know When I wasn't making much money You know where my paycheck went You know, I brought it home to you, baby And I never spent a red cent Is that any way for a man to carry on Do you think I want my loved one gone Said I love you More than you'll ever know, yeah More than you'll ever know Now listen to this I'm not trying to be just any kind of man No, I ain't I'm just trying to be somebody You can love, trust and understand I know, I know, I know that I can be A part of you that no one else could see, yeah But I gotta hear you say I got to hear you say It's alright I'm only flesh and blood But I can be anything that you demand I can be King of everything Or just a tiny grain of sand Now tell me Is that anyway for a man to carry on Do you think that I want my loved one gone I love you More than you'll ever know I said I love you I love you, I love you, hey Don't want nobody else but you Time Pink Floyd Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way. Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way. Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain. You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun. So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death. Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time. Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, Thought I'd something more to say. Home Home again I like to be here When I can When I come home Cold and tired It's good to warm my bones Beside the fire Far away Across the field Tolling on the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spell Time In A Bottle Jim Croce If I could save time in a bottle The first thing that I'd like to do Is to save every day 'Til eternity passes away Just to spend them with you If I could make days last forever If words could make wishes come true I'd save every day like a treasure and then, Again, I would spend them with you But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do Once you find them I've looked around enough to know That you're the one I want to go Through time with If I had a box just for wishes And dreams that had never come true The box would be empty Except for the memory Of how they were answered by you But there never seems to be enough time To do the things you want to do Once you find them I've looked around enough to know That you're the one I want to go Through time with Time After Time Cyndi Lauper Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick And think of you Caught up in circles Confusion is nothing new Flashback, warm nights Almost left behind Suitcases of memories Time after Sometimes you picture me I'm walking too far ahead You're calling to me, I can't hear What you've said Then you say, go slow I fall behind The second hand unwinds If you're lost you can look and you will find me Time after time If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting Time after time If you're lost you can look and you will find me Time after time If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting Time after time After my picture fades and darkness has Turned to gray Watching through windows You're wondering if I'm okay Secrets stolen from deep inside The drum beats out of time If you're lost you can look and you will find me Time after time If you fall I will catch you, I will be waiting Time after time You said go slow I fall behind The second hand unwinds If you're lost you can look and you will find me Time after time If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting Time after time If you're lost you can look and you will find me Time after time If you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting Time after time Time after time Time after time Time after time Time after time Time after time Time after time Time after Time Thank You
