Today I read a new book called ''Rumpelstiltskin''. Once there was a miller that was very poor, his only treasure was his daughter. The miller told the king that she could spin straw into gold even though she could not. The king was very greedy, though, and wanted to test the girl. He had her brought to the castle and locked in a room full of straw. He told her if the room was not filled with gold by morning, she would be killed.
A little while after the king left, the girl began to cry because she didn't know how to spin straw into gold. Then, a little man wearing a blue coat, and a red hat with three feathers came into the room. He asked what would she trade if he did it for her. My necklace, she said. He took the necklace and soon the room was filled with gold. The king made her go in two more rooms filled with straw. Each time, the little man came. The second time he came, the girl traded her ring and the little man once again spun the straw into gold. The third time, she didn't have any thing to trade. The little man thought, and then said "If you become queen, then give me your first child." The girl thought that there was no way that she would ever become the queen, so she agreed. After the king received the third room of gold, he decided to marry the miller's daughter. After a year, the queen had a baby. After a little while, the small man came for the child. The queen began to sob, and the little man took pity on her. He said, "I will give you three days to guess my name, by the end of that time if you have found out what my name is, the child is yours to keep. She tried Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar, Short-ribs, Sheepshanks, and Lace-leg. Finally, a messenger found out his name at the top of a hill near a little cottage. His name was Rumpelstiltskin! The little man was so mad that he stamped his feet. He stamped his feet so hard that he dug a very deep hole, and the walls fell in on him and he disappeared from sight! He was never seen again...
