Today, I'm not going to be talking about the quote that titles this post. I just needed a headline that somewhat ties in with what I'm going to be speaking about, and I'm going to be speaking about resolving conflict. My opinion is that if someone actively wants to try and make things better, you should at least give them a chance. If they mess up after you give them a chance, then don't waste your time on them... but be open to the idea of resolution.
My little sister and I get into disputes here and there- she gets on my nerves, I get on hers. I push her buttons, she pushes mine. It gets tiresome. After a particularly long and disruptive argument today, I decided to try and resolve things by spending some time with her. Not only did she straight up turn my offer to spend time with her down, she stomped upstairs saying to "not bother her again". I respected that, but it got me thinking and inspired this blog post. I tried speaking to someone about the issue I was having and was automatically told that I'm the source of the problem. Well, here's a small news flash- friendship is a two way street, even with family. I've spoken about this before when referring to parents and how they raise their kids. It's a two way street. The same applies to siblings. If you constantly don't give your sibling a chance to fix things, chances are that things won't ever get better. Even if your sibling is the cause of the problem (as I was told I was), it doesn't mean they don't deserve a chance to be forgiven. I've stated before that I'm an incredibly forgiving person. In fact, my forgiveness is one of my fatal flaws because sometimes, I'm too forgiving. It can get me into rough situations. This isn't the point. My point is, I don't think I should be told I can't try to fix things... even when I am the problem. I'm not trying to deny that fact or step around it- I'm just asking to be allowed to at least try to fix things. No one should be denied their chance to resolve things... particularly not on the first try. - Maddie
